Free Tim Davison track
Posted on June 6, 2009
Bacardi, the beverage manufacturer, is launching a record label of sorts that commissions songs from artists and will make them available as free MP3 downloads.
None of the music made available on the Bacardi Bat Project will have been released before, making it the only place to find these tracks (well, until they show up on P2P). In addition to studio tracks, Bacardi is commissioning remixes and live tracks.
The Bacardi B-Live website is now live (www.bacardi.com) and includes new original dance tracks available for download to visitors to the site every month. Each month will see a major artist give away a track alongside several from young talent ‘new breed’ producers – Krafty Kuts is lined up for May 1st and Todd Terje for the month after. Musically we’re talking house, deep house, progressive house and breaks.
This month I am one of those selected as part of the New Breed and my track “Lost Children” will be on the Bacardi B-Live website for a month exclusively for download……….

New residency announced at Ministry of Sound (London)
Posted on March 27, 2009
Very excited to announce that from 1 May I will start a new residency at the legendary Gallery night at the Ministry of Sound, London with the launch party on 1 May 2009. Here is the official press release from MoS:

To some, three is a crowd. To others three is the ultimate bedtime fantasy. To Dale Anderson, Anil Chawla and Tim Davison three is the magic number, and the unique formula behind clubland’s newest supergroup. DAT Soundsystem is the brainchild of three friends… three fledging DJs… and three formidable producers. Individually, Dale, Anil and Tim are well established in their own right and between them they represent an exciting new breed of DJ/Producers about to hit the big time. Collectively, DAT Soundsystem is a new musical experiment set to reinvigorate dancefloors the world over with its sonic soundscape and open-mindedness.
Touching down at London’s Ministry of Sound on Friday 1st May, The Gallery has nabbed the world exclusive first appearance from the talented trio as they embark on a 6 hour back-to-back-to-back adventure in the Bar! Hernan Cattaneo, Sister Bliss and Behrouz complete what is set to be a huge evening with additional tunage in the Box. It’s fitting then that DAT Soundsystem should debut at The Gallery, as it was at the clubs former home Turnmills, where the three DJs all met whilst DJing back in 2002 over a common bond of music, tequila and nacho cheese. ….
Anil & Dale have just released their debut album ‘Roadhouse’ with Global Underground to mass acclaim. Described by I-DJ Magazine as having “set the standard for 2009”, the GU Worldwide Tour residents have become the label’s frontline infantry earning them plaudits aplenty including Laurent Garnier, Nic Fancuilli, John Digweed and Paul Oakenfold to name a few. Having flown out to WMC to guest star at the DJ Magazine and Global Undergound parties, Anil & Dale scooped ‘Deep House Track of the Year’ for the album track ‘Leftorium’ at the annual Beatport Awards and were nominated for ‘Best Artist’. At the end of 2008, Anil was also nominated by DJ Magazine as ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ of the year and was shortlisted to host the new ‘In New DJs We Trust’ show on Radio 1. Meanwhile, Canadian-born Dale has played all over the planet and counts Sasha, John Digweed, Pete Tong, Paul van Dyk and James Holden as his closest supporters. His tracks have featured on compilations from Global Underground, Renaissance and Armada and more globe-trotting tours are planned for the summer. ….
Completing the threesome is Tim Davison, described by DJ Magazine as “one of 2008’s brightest stars”. Tim released his own debut LP ‘Long Way from Home’ on Baroque Records last year to much critical praise and DJ support and the last 12 months have seen Tim criss-cross the globe taking in Argentina, Colombia, Indonesia, Serbia, Lithuania, Ukraine and over a dozen dates in Russia, as well playing at some of the UK’s cooler club nights including regular guest spots at The Gallery. Tim’s remixes of Underworld, Leftfield and, in particular his cheeky reworking of The Chemical Brothers’ ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl’ have become instant anthems played at open-air festivals and underground parties alike and with over 50 productions and remixes to his name Tim’s profile is on the up at a ridiculous rate…..
And DAT is how they roll… ….
Since those early days, their profiles have continued to rise. They have worked both collectively and individually on an increasing number of leading productions and played in every corner of the globe, driving each other to achieve even more. DAT Soundsystem will finally give them the opportunity to bring all that talent together as part of this brand new residency for 2009 and push the envelope even further. Head to www.datsoundsystem.com to download exclusive DATCAST mixes recorded live by the guys from their gigs from the far reaches of the earth, plus look out for all the latest news and gossip.….

Tim Davison - Patrol [Vapour]
Posted on March 27, 2009
My track, “Patrol” has also recently been released on leading Australian label, Vapour Recorings featuring remixes from Kasey Taylor and Logiztik Sounds. It was featured on www.progressive-sounds.com and awarded 8/10. Here is the review:
DJ and producer Tim Davison..s string of popular remixes has garnered a flurry of attention on the DJ circuit. Going back more than fifteen years into the catalog of electronic music, he..s been touching up classics like The Chemical Brothers.. ..Hey Boy Hey Girl.. and Underworld..s ..Cowgirl.., tweaking things just enough to make sense for modern dance floors. As his bootleg remix of Leftfield..s ..Song For Life.. broke into the top ten at Juno, one can only imagine the quality of his original mixes.
Arranging a broad spectrum of house, Davison..s productions are thick with sound, and many of them flexible enough to play in a variety of sets. That would explain why he..s receiving accolades from everybody from Anthony Pappa to James Zabiela. For all his universalism in previous work, he..s taken a decidedly more specialized route with ..Patrol.., his production for Vapour Recordings.
Davison..s original mix is slightly gritty and electro-tinged with a heavily bloated bassline. Its high energy from the start implies a track destined for epic breakdowns and high climaxes but Davison levels it in his style of house, bounded within stuttered female vocals and rubbery vocal edits. The bassline swells in the breakdown between cheeky fills and sustained strings, but doesn..t peak as high as the roaring bassline might imply.
The remix by Logiztik Sounds elaborates on the electro-house theme, pronouncing the kick and leaving the mix a little more room to grow by introducing fills first before the bassline, which has had its EQ tweaked up a bit. Wooden fills tromp through the mix as lighter-than-air synths drift through the mix. The first breakdown brings back the rubbery edits from the original but it..s been re-arranged to create movement instead of providing markers. Logiztik has extended what is revealed to be a defiant vocal in the breakdown, which plays through under a back-and-forth between thin fills and throatier ones.
Kasey Taylor..s remix is percussively the most complex of the three, benchmarking the track upon extensive instrumentation and weaving in pitch changing fills and reverberating vocal repetition. Pasting it together with high synths, the bassline is muffled but also more menacing, ready to jump out of its groove. The meaty mid-range percussion is a great complement on top of the bassline, punctured by distressed cheekiness. The slightly spacious tribal arrangements are a great addition, as they create space for the massive bassline from Davison..s original. Taylor seems to have realized the behemoth of a bassline he has on his hands and has put it to work carrying multiple layers of hats and fills.
An interesting twist of ideas using a traditional house structure, the flexibility in style inherent in Tim Davison..s work release to release isn..t immediately successful when crossing genres within a track such as his original mix of ..Patrol… Somebody has to break ground though, and the remixes present more than make up for any shortcomings in the original mix. Besides that, hearing what he can do with tracks from 1992 makes his future work worth keeping an ear out for. ..Patrol.. is out now on Vapour Recordings.

Tim Davison - Bang to Rights [InCharge]
Posted on March 27, 2009
My track, “Bang to Rights”, has recently been released on Marco V’s label “InCharge”. Here is the review from trance.nu (http://www.trance.nu/v4/reviews/tim-davison-bang-to-rights):
It’s always a pleasant feeling when I discover a great producer who I hadn’t heard of yet, as is the case of this latest release on In Charge from Tim Davison – Bang To Rights. Tim is a London based producer of some pedigree whose admirers read like a who’s who of credible dance, from James Zabiela to Carl Cox, Nic Fanciulli to Paul van Dyk. He released his debut artist album Long Way From Home last year on the none-cooler Baroque label and what a exquisitely crafted gem of rare beauty it is – hunt it down! He also has a knack for remixing classic tunes that put to shame the numerous producers flogging dead rats with their pointless re-hashes – check out his remixes of Cowgirl and Hey Boy Hey Girl on his MySpace page. In short, he’s exactly the sort of artist that you expect Marco V to showcase on his label.
Bang To Rights is a very simple track but that is the key to its effectiveness – nothing is overdone. After a long, minimal percussive intro a burst of white noise drops into a groovy two note bassline. An excellent short vocal loop and head-mashing rotating synths filter in and out of the track and quirky squiggles squirt up randomly. The breakdown hosts a lovely plucked melody played on a great sitar-like instrument sound before the bassline drops with a vengeance. The melody is allowed a reprise before the end, dancing mischievously with the bass. Overall, a fine track that wouldn’t be more Marco V if it was a short, bald, mild-mannered Dutchman.
Available on In Charge vinyl sampler with the superb Thomas Penton pres. Stripwalker – Krackhouse and the techy banger from Fausto & Divini – Lupara – a must-have for Marco V fans who are sticking faithfully to the black stuff. 4/5
